Detail:
Aims
- To facilitate discussion and address concerns about engaging with men in safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children
- To consider lessons from practice and research relating to ‘hidden’ men
- To identify men as positive for children and those who pose a risk to children
- To acknowledge values and context around issues of gender and fatherhood
- To develop practical ways of effectively engaging with men
Learning Outcomes
- Awareness of:
- key learning from local and national Serious Case Reviews/Child Practice Reviews and current research
- reasons why men may be 'hidden' – ignored, avoided, avoiding, concealed
- block and difficulties to effective practice, including– Personal, Professional and Organisational
- Development of practical skills:
- assertiveness and authoritative working with men and other members of the family
- gaining repertoire of what to say, including useful questions and approaches
- considering practical changes in the workplace and methods of working
