Detail:

Target audience: Delegates should have completed an introductory course on domestic violence and abuse e.g. DVA generic level 1 training course or similar.  This Level 2 course will build on the learning outcomes in the DVA Level 1 course and will provide staff from both the children’s and adults’ workforce across all partner organisations with specific responsibilities for dealing with domestic abuse with broad and comprehensive practical learning on domestic violence and abuse issues

 

Learning outcomes:

  • Know how to ask about domestic violence and abuse in a way that makes it easier for people to disclose it.
  • Competently and confidently recognise and respond to the signs of DVA
  • Understand how domestic violence and abuse affects people's lives and the role of professionals in intervening safely
  • Know how to respond with empathy and understanding and assess someone's immediate safety
  • Be able to refer to specialist services and local care pathways (and follow relevant safeguarding children and adult processes.)
  • Understand the main content areas of the Barnardo’s Screening Tool (for young people and children) and DASH risk assessment tool (for both adults and 16-18 year olds)
  • Understand how to recognise and respond appropriately to signs of female genital mutilation/ forced marriage/honour based abuse
  • Have an understanding of and the implications of the Trio of Vulnerabilities
  • Have an awareness of the toolkits available to support work
  • Understand how to refer into a MARAC (Multi Agency Risk Assessment Conference)
  • Learn from Domestic Homicide Reviews and Serious Case Reviews and be able to apply the learning to their professional work
  • Conduct and complete appropriate Information sharing and documentation
  • Have an understanding of any new relevant legislation
