Graded Care Profile 2 (GCP2) is an evidence-based assessment tool licenced by the NSPCC. The tool is used for measuring the quality of care provided by a parent or carer in meeting their child’s needs.
The tool was developed to address the following issues in regard to neglect:
1.Practitioners have difficulty in assessing neglect
2.Assessing neglect can be subjective – often relating to a practitioners experience or perceptions of neglect – GCP2 aims to be more objective
3.It’s easier to recognise neglect at the high end but even with those cases evidence is needed for court orders
4.Neglect has a high threshold for recognition and an issue with LAG – which refers to the delay between when neglect starts and when it is possible to perceive the impact of neglect
5.Neglect is a complex issue so there is no simple solution to it. But it is the number one reason for children being placed on a child protection plan. GCP2 is not a 5 minute checklist but a detailed tool that can respond effectively to a complex area.
Target Audience GCP2 training is suitable for those who work predominately with children, young people and families, involved in assessing, planning, intervening and reviewing children and young people’s needs and parenting capacity. Including those with specialist roles with responsibility for conducting s47 enquiries or working with complex cases, professional advisors, named or designated lead for safeguarding. |
