Detail:

Aims 

  • To facilitate discussion and address concerns about engaging with men in safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children 
  • To consider lessons from practice and research relating to ‘hidden’ men
  • To identify men as positive for children and those who pose a risk to children
  • To acknowledge values and context around issues of gender and fatherhood
  • To develop practical ways of effectively engaging with men

 Learning Outcomes

  • Awareness of :
    • key learning from local and national SCRs and current research
    • reasons why men may be 'hidden' – ignored, avoided, avoiding, concealed
    • block and difficulties to effective practice, including– Personal, Professional and Organisational
  • Development of practical skills:
    • assertiveness and authoritative working with men and other members of the family
    • gaining repertoire of what to say, including useful questions and approaches
    • considering practical changes in the workplace and methods of working
